Tumor microenvironment determine tumor evolution, phenotype and its aggressiveness. Hypoxia is just one, but very crucial element of this rich and dynamic environment. In our group we focus on hypoxia in tumor growth and development, and its response to therapies. Several examples of preclinical tumor oximetry will be discussed, in the context of tumor biology and some strategies to alleviate hypoxia, including ITPP – a hemoglobin modifier and ultrasound sensitive microbubbles.
About the Speaker
Dr. Martyna Elas is specializing in preclinical imaging, especially in the field of anticancer therapies. She is an expert in oxygen mapping of tumors using electron paramagnetic resonance, vasculature imaging using ultrasound, computer tomography, and MRI. The radiobiology and mechanisms involved in metastasis lie also within the range of her studies. She is involved in many international collaborations, including University of Chicago, Orlean University, Marie Curie Institute, and Geneva University. She is a Polish coordinator for H2020 grant (UMCure2020) devoted to developing a cure for metastatic of uveal melanoma. Dr. Elas has been teaching biophysics in Poland and abroad (Orlean, Tbilisi) and was engaged in developing master and bachelor programs in biophysics.
